Dear Horse Owner

If you want to make sure that your horse is performing at their best then you've come to the right place.

Imagine riding a horse that moves freely through their back, with level even strides and a willing attitude.  What sort of difference would that make to your riding experience?

Having a great relationship with your horse can only happen when they are free of stiffness, pain and tension.  If your horse is suffering, even slightly, then they'll be unable to give you the quality of work that they can truly achieve.

Don’t Wait Until Your Horse Is Lame

Horses are great maskers of pain and will soldier on with many problems.  However over time these can lead to chronic lameness and potential behaviour issues.

Its at this point that many horse owners turn to their equine therapist.  And therapy can work well in these instances.

But why wait?

By treating your horse now you can prevent more serious issues developing and ensure that your horse is performing to the best of their ability.

Equine Muscle Release Therapy - The Answer to Your Horse's Performance Problems

Whether your horse is the next Olympic star or a much loved family all rounder they'll only be happy doing the things you want them to do if they are free from muscle problems, pain and stiffness. Many of these problems are caused by muscle spasms and tight fascia. This tension cannot be released by rest and medication alone. Neither does stretching, heat or cold therapy solve the problem.

This is where Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT) makes the difference.

The treatment works by stimulating the muscle fibres and sending a message via the nervous system to the brain. This is turn causes the fascia to soften, allowing the muscle spasm to release.

So what does that mean for the Horse?

Imagine trying to go through your day, doing your every day jobs but with really tight cling film wrapped around your body! Well this is what it feels like to the horse when they have problems with their fascia.

Fascia is a type of connective tissue that covers all regions of the body including the muscles, bones and internal organs. So any restrictions in this fascia can have an affect on your horse in many ways.

Now imagine the relief you would experience when somewhen removed that clingfilm - can you picture how much freer you would feel and what a difference that would make to the way you move.

By releasing the horse's fascia, EMRT allows the horse to perform and move without any restrictions. The result for you is a horse that can perform free of pain and tension. Just think what different that would make each time you ride your horse.

Why Do Horses Develop Tight Fascia?

There are lots of reasons that fascia problems develop. The obvious one is due to a muscle injury. But because problems don't occur in isolation often a slight problem in one area, over time, will lead to a severe problem somewhere else in the body. Here are just a few examples:

  • Lameness which results in the horse overusing other muscles.
  • Direct trauma - eg kick or fall
  • Slipping or tripping - in the field or when ridden
  • Poor fitting saddles
  • Rider imbalance (don't worry we know how to treat the rider too!)
  • Overexertion causing muscle tearing.
  • Dehydration
  • Poor shoeing
  • Conformational issues causing imbalances elsewhere in the body
  • Poor teeth leading to jaw problems

What Problems Can EMRT Treat?

The question should really be - what problems can't EMRT treat.

Because fascia covers so much of the body it can impact on many different systems. The obvious issues that benefit from EMRT are muscle related such as back pain, unlevelness, joint problems and cold backs. However results can also be seen for respiratory, digestive and dental issues.

Here are some of the most common reasons for using EMRT:

  • Unexplained deterioration in performance
  • Unexplained resistance
  • Irritability
  • Uneven muscle development
  • Muscle wastage
  • Uneven shoe wear
  • Dragging hind feet
  • Stumbling/tripping
  • Stiffness on one rein
  • Intermittent or unresolved lameness
  • Disunited paces
  • Sore or cold back
  • Filled legs
  • Lymphatic or lactic acid imbalance
  • Respiratory complaints
  • Dental problems/jaw tension
  • Digestive disorders eg recurrent colic
  • Neurological issues eg headshaking
  • Recovery from injury

As you can see its pretty extensive!

And what's more it works great to keep your horse in tip top condition - just take a look at this 27 year old mare who is still going strong thanks to EMRT!
